The Volvo 740 was the base model of the 760 and was introduced in 1985 as a mid-size car. The style, performance, and luxury were factors that made this model successful. In 1992, the Volvo 740 was available as a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon. This model has not been in production for almost 15 years; still these cars are successfully on the road as a result of the construction and engines known to run for hundreds of thousands of miles.
1990 – Styling and many mechanical improvements were to the 740 series. 1990 - The Volvo 740 was modified with new composite headlamps and 780-style tail lights. 1991 - The Volvo 740 and the 940 received an updated dashboard. 1992 - The Volvo 740 was not changed for the model year. 1993 - The Volvo 740 was stopped.
