The Mercury Lynx is a compact car produced by the Ford Motor Company for the Mercury part. The Lynx was introduced by Mercury in 1981 and was produced for nearly six years till 1987. The Mercury Tracer was used to replace the Mercury Lynx in 1987. The Mercury Lynx was initially the best selling model from Mercury and later production was stopped in 1987 as a result bad sales. Mercury Lynx used the Ford CE14 platform and was based on the Mazda 323. The Mercury Lynx was built in parts of Wayne, Michigan; Edison, New Jersey; Oakville, Ontario, Canada and Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
The Mercury Lynx was used to replace the Mercury Bobcat and was available in the FF layout. The Mercury Lynx used different types of engine that include the 1.6 Litre CVH I4 engine, 1.9 Litre CVH I4 engine and the 2.0 Litre Mazda RF diesel I4 engine. The three types of transmissions that were used are the four speed IB4 manual, five speed MTX-III manual and the three speed FLC ATX automatic transmission. The Mercury Lynx was available in three door hatchback, four door station wagon and five door hatchback version.
