The Land Rover LR2 is a compact Sport Utility Vehicle that was manufactured and marketed by the British company Land Rover; a part of Tata Motors. The Land Rover LR2 was first introduced for the journalists and others at the Kensington Roof Gardens and was officially introduced at the 2006 British International Motor Show. The Land Rover LR2 also used the name as Freelander in parts of Europe. The Land Rover LR2 used the Ford EUCD platform, which itself is based on the Ford C1 platform. Ford Galaxy, Ford S-MAX and Volvo S80 are the other vehicles that used the same platform.
The Land Rover LR2 or Freelander as it was called used different types of engine that include the transversely-mounted 3.2 liter I6 engine of the Volvo SI6 series and the 2.2 litre DW12 common rail turbo-diesel engine. The Land Rover LR2 is manufactured at the plant in Halewood, near Liverpool. The main features of the Land Rover LR2 include improved ground clearance, heated windscreen washer jet, a Lighting Package and promises greater off-road capabilities. The Land Rover LR2 used four wheel drive option and was sold in parts of United States in 2007.
