The 300M was a luxury car portrayed as a "flagship" vehicle, it was introduced by DaimlerChrysler for the 999 model year as a front-wheel drive, V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. The 300M was similar in exterior and interior to the Concorde and was introduced to replace the import-fighter”. The 300M had the European "5 metre" (16.4 foot) size class for export, had the same wheelbase as the Dodge Intrepid and reducing its length by cutting front and rear overhangs. This model came with only one engine, the Chrysler-engineered 3.5 L V6. For 1999, it was rated at 253 horsepower (189 kW), and 255 pound-feet (346 Nm) of torque. It was connected to the 42LE, a four-speed automatic transmission with Autostick, which allowed manual selection of gears. The standard gear ratio on the 300M was 3.66:1 the 300M Special was offered in the midyear of 2002. This model had an imitation-carbon-fiber interior trim panel, replacing the wood grain trim panels, 255 hp (190 kW) 3.5 liter engine on 91+ octane with 258 lbft (350 Nm) of torque, and a 3.89 final drive ratio. The 300M used the "jeweled" taillights for the 2001 model year, and a redesigned grille for the 2002 model year, with only a few other minor changes over its lifespan. The 300M was Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for 1999. It was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1999 and 2000.
