The Cabriolet was Audi's first soft top coupe. The Audi Cabriolet was a heavily engineered model. Initially the Cabriolet was a part of the Audi 80 series however as a result of its success it was just called as Audi Cabriolet in many parts of the World. The Audi Cabriolet was considered to be part of the "Grand Tourismo" style of comfortable luxury cars. The Audi Cabriolet featured great sporting tendencies although it was not a light weight model.
The Audi Cabriolet initially used the 2.3 litre 5 cylinder engine. Later Audi Cabriolet used the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder parts and also the 2.6 litre V6 engine. In many parts of Europe a new 2 door Coupe and the B3 was introduced. This new version of the Cabriolet used the 115 PS (85 kW) 2.0E as well as the two 2.3E engines. The Audi Cabriolet was available as a Quattro and options were also available.
