The first executive car released by Saab in 1985 is the Saab 9000. This model was based on the Type Four chassis, a platform shared with the Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Alfa Romeo 164. The body of Saab 9000 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Saab 9000 was classified as a “Large Car” by the EPA although it was shorter than the 900. The normally aspirated engine was introduced in the Saab9000 and 9000 S models, in 1986 as a result 130 hp (97 kW) was produced.
