The Hyundai Elantra is a compact, fuel efficient car that was produced by Hyundai of South Korea. The Hyundai Elantra was launched in 1991 by Hyundai. The Hyundai Elantra was initially used different names in different parts where it was sold. The Elantra was sold as the Lantra and the Avante in parts of Australia and European markets. The Elantra was marketed as the Bimantara Nenggala in Indonesia. As a result of the confusion because of the various names used, the name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001.
The Elantra used different types of engines that include the 1.5 litre, 1.6 litre, 2.0 litre and 1.8 litre engine. The Hyundai Elantra is listed as United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Picks Ten Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles. In 2006 and 2007, the Elantra was the second in the category of most fuel efficient sedans. The Electra was also ranked as the most efficient non-hybrid mid-sized sedan. The Elantra was awarded the 2008 Consumer Reports "top pick".
