The Chevrolet Avalanche is a four door, sport utility truck that was launched in 2001 for the 2002 model year. In order to distinguish the Chevrolet Avalanche from Suburban/Yukon XL it was given a light gray plastic body cladding for the first year. 2002 – The Chevrolet Avalanche was awarded the Motor Trend magazine's SUV of the Year.
