Nissan, which was known by the name of Datsun in U.S., introduced the 200SX in 1970 as a two-plus-two coupe to compete with the Toyota Celica. The name describes the displacement in the engine: 2.0 litres. As a result of quirky styling and because Japanese import was not major at that time, the original S10-series 200SX sold poorly.
The 200SX was available with two engine options in the U.S., the CA20E 2.0 litre four, or the CA18ET, a 1.8 litre turbo from 1984-86. In 1987, Nissan dropped the Turbo to offer something better, in approximately 5000 cars in 87 and 5000 in 88, the VG30E 3.0-liter V6 was used to create the 200SX SE V6. FJ20E, FJ20ET and CA18DET were other engine options available in Japan, Australia, the U.K., and Europe. On a side note, few people are aware of the fact that The S12 200SX was immortalized in Japan as it was made into a Penny Racer.

The available year for this model (200SX) are
1986,1987,1988,1995,1996,1997,1998
The first Silvia built on the Nissan S platform was the S10 however it was less popular as it featured more traditional lines. Datsun 610/Bluebird 180B and S10 used the L18B engine in Japan. In the North American market they offered the L20B was offered as 200B as it used the advanced engine. This model was mandated 5 mph (8.0 km/h) bumpers and had the badge as Datsun 200SX.
