The Series II Discovery was manufactured and marketed by Land rover as a four wheel drive on-road and off-road vehicle. The Discovery Series II is the second generation of the Discovery model and was introduced in autumn 1998 in many parts and in the US in 1999. Although the Discovery Series II is the second generation of Discovery the car was modified and many advanced parts were used to ensure that it was different from the basic Discovery. Land Rover claimed that there were more than 720 'difference' between the basic Discovery and the Series II.
The interior and exterior of the Series II was modified when compared to the first generation Discovery. The main changes include every body panel part was changed, the rear body was extended to improve load space, off-road ability was improved, parts of the wheel and tyre were also changed and used diesel engines. Discovery II Commercial models were also produced by Land Rover Special Vehicles that used the five-door bodyshell as the base. The last Discovery Series II was produced in late May 2004 and made way for the all new Discovery 3 (LR3) models. The current Discovery Series III is marketed in North America as the LR3.
