The Volkswagen Dasher was introduced in 1975 and was used as a successor to the Beetle. The Volkswagen was called as Passat in other parts and when it was introduced in North America it was called the Dasher. The Volkswagen used many parts from Audi 80 sedan (known as the Fox) and is a successful model. The Volkswagen was designed by the famed automotive architect Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Volkswagen Dasher was a front-engined, front-wheel-drive fastback car.

The Volkswagen Dasher was available in two and four-door versions, as well as a wagon version. The main parts that made the Volkswagen Dasher special are the round headlights and used 1.5-liter, water-cooled four cylinder engine that generated 75 horsepower. The Diesel engine was also available as optional. The Dasher used a four-speed manual transmission, rack and pinion steering, and a power-assisted braking system. The interior of the Dashier included modern parts like bucket seats, full carpeting, a ventilation system, and a rear-window defogger.
