The Subaru BRAT was a pickup version of the Subaru Leone introduced in the 1978. The name, BRAT is an acronym for Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter. The Subaru BRAT was developed from the four-wheel drive station wagon model. The concept was similar to that of Chevrolet El Camino and the Ford Ranchero. The Brat could not be called a truck, the plastic seats in the cargo bed allowed Subaru to designate the BRAT as a passenger car.The available year for this model (Brat) are

In 1981 the BRAT was restyled and the jumpseats were discontinued soon. Subaru Brat was known as the Brumby in Australia and as the Shifter in the UK. The BRAT was manufactured for export markets and was not sold in Japan. All BRATs had four-wheel drive with either the 1.6 Litre EA-71 or the 1.8 Litre EA-81 engine. 1983 and 1984 models provided the turbocharged engine as an option. The BRAT was available with optional automatic transmission and four wheel drive.
