The Saab 9-5 is an executive car produced by Saab, the Swedish car manufacturer. Saab 9-5 was introduced in 1997 replacing the Saab 9000 in the spring for 1997. Saab 9-5 was introduced in the United States for the 1999 model year. The Saab 9-5 is available as Sedan and Station Wagon body styles. The innovative features of the Saab 9-5 include the tracks to secure cargo down and a sliding load floor to make loading easier. The main safety features include the availability of ventilated seats with Saab Active Head Restraints (SAHR) that moved up and forward to prevent whiplash when the car is struck from the rear.
The B235-based Saab 9-5 models suffered an abnormally high rate of engine failures due to engine oil sludge. The Saab 9-5 is powered by Saab's B205 and B235 straight-4 engines. These cars were distinguishable by the twin tailpipes and were available only with Automatic Transmission.
2004 - The V6 engine was replaced by a high pressure turbo straight-4 engine producing 220 hp (160 kW).
2008 – Engine was updated to produce 260 hp (190 kW) even in the non-Aero model (US model).
2005 - Updated version of the 2.0 L turbocharged I4 was introduced in the European market together with the 2006 Saab 9-5.
