The Porsche 924 was a successful entry level model produced from 1976 to 1988 by Porsche AG of Germany. The Porsche 924 was available as a two-door, 2+2 coupe replacing the 914. Porsche 924 was first introduced in November 1975 at the harbour at La Grande Motte, Camargue in the south of France. The 924 was initially a Volkswagen project however due to crisis the model was produced by Porsche and became an immediate success.

In 1978, Porsche introduced the turbo charged 924 to increase the performance. The Porsche 924 was the first Porsche model powered by a water-cooled, front-mounted engine to be produced. The front-engine, rear wheel drive was used by Porsche instead of the mid or rear-mounted engines of a boxer configuration, all of which had been air-cooled. In order to provide /52 front/rear weight distribution Porsche used the rear wheel drive layout with the rear transaxle. Porsche added a NACA duct in the hood and air intakes in the badge panel in the nose in order to help make the car more functional, and to distinguish it from the naturally-aspirated version.
