The successful sports car built by Porsche from 1982 to 1991 was called Porsche 944. The 944S2 was introduced in 1989. The Porsche 944 was a successful model and was available as both a coupe and cabriolet in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. This model was successful and received positive reviews except for the engine. Porsche used the new all-alloy 2.5 litre straight-4 engine that provided fuel efficiency and size. The main feature of this model was the two counter rotating balance shafts running at twice engine speed. The Porsche 944 was faster, more equipped, better handling/stopping power, more comfortable to drive and more refined than the 924. The factory claimed a speed of 0-60 mph in 9 seconds. 1985 - The Porsche 944 was modified, the major changes include a new dash and door panels, embedded radio antenna, upgraded alternator, increased oil sump capacity, new front and rear cast alloy control arms, semi-trailing arms, larger fuel tank, optional heated powered seats, Porsche HiFi sound system, and revisions in the mounting of the transaxle to reduce noise and vibration. The wheels were also upgraded new phone dial style wheels were used instead of the cookie cutter style wheels used in the early Porsche 944s.
