The Pontiac Grand Prix is a personal luxury, mid-size car. The Grand Prix was manufactured and marketed by the Pontiac part of General Motors. The name, 'Grand Prix' was initially used as part of Pontiac's full-size model offering for the 1962 model year. The Pontiac Grand Prix ranked below the large Bonneville in the company's line-up. The Pontiac Grand Prix used the B-body platform. The Pontiac Grand Prix was available in two door coupe body style. The Pontiac Grand Prix used the FR layout and was manufactured in seven generations.

The Pontiac Grand Prix used four types of engine that include the: 389 CID V8, 421 CID V8, 400 CID V8 and the 428 CID V8 engine.
