The Cutlass is the name used for the series of cars that were introduced by Oldsmobile. The Cutlass Salon is an upscale Euro-style luxury/sports sedan used the same concept as the Pontiac Grand Am of the era. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon was redesigned for the 1973 model year using GM's new Colonnade A-body platform. The Oldsmobile Cutlass model line-up included cars like Cutlass S, Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Salon, Vista Cruiser station wagon, and the 442.

The Cutlass Salon was a successful mode the main features include an up-rated suspension parts, radial tires, reclining bucket seats and dimmer switch mounted in the turn-signal lever. Most of the parts of the Cutlass Salon were based on the Cutlass Supreme series. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon was first introduced as a 4-door Colonnade sedan in 1973 and later in 1974 the 2-door Colonnade hardtop coupe was introduced. The Cutlass Salon is the first Oldsmobile vehicle with the 'international' flags emblem. The Oldsmobile Cutlass used the 180-horsepower 350 Rocket V8 engine as standard and 250-horsepower 455 Rocket V8 engine was available as optional.
