The Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight is a full-size car sold by the Oldsmobile part of General Motors. The Eighty-Eight was introduced by Oldsmobile in 1949 and was produced till 1999. The 88 series was a top selling model and also an image leader for Oldsmobile in the early years (1949-1951). The name was initially shown as numbers in the earlier years and was changed to spell-out Eighty Eight starting in 1989. The Eighty-Eight's front and rear was restyled for 1996 model year to bear more resemblance to the flagship Aurora.
The Eighty-Eight was one of the best performing automobiles although it was a relatively small size, light weight and used the advanced overhead-valve high-compression V8 engine. The Eighty-Eight was available with different names like Delmont, Delta, Dynamic, Jetstar, Starfire, Super, Holiday, L/S, LSS, Celebrity, Royale and Fiesta appeared on some station wagons in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1959, the model was re-styled and was promoted as the Linear Look, and used six-window styling on four-door pillared sedans, glassy semi-fastback rooflines on Holiday coupes and flat-blade rooflines with thin windshield and C-pillars on Holiday sedans which created a fishbowl-like effect.
