The BMW Z3 is the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW. The Z3 is also the first new BMW model assembled in the United States. The Z3 is a roadster available in two door convertible and two door coupe versions. The Z3 was introduced in 1996 and was produced till 2002. The BMW Z1 replaced the Z3 and the Z4 was used by BMW to replace the Z3. The BMW Z3 used the BMW E36 platform and the FR layout. The BMW Z3 used the rear semi-trailing arm and suspension parts. The Z3 used different types of engine that include the 1.8 LITRE M43B18 I4, 1.9 LITRE M44B19 I4, 2.0 LITRE M52B20 T I6, 2.2 LITRE M54B22 I6, 2.8 LITRE M52B28 I6, 3.2 LITRE S52B32 I6 (NA on Ly), 3.2 LITRE S50B32 I6 (non-NA), 2.5 LITRE M52B25 I6, 2.5 LITRE M54B25 I6, 3.0 LITRE M54B30 I6 and the 3.2 LITRE S54B32 I6 engine. The two types of transmission that were used were the four speed automatic and the five speed manual transmission.
