The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a coupe that has been in production since 1989 in four different generations. The Eclipse was produced by the Mitsubishi for left hand drive markets. The Mitsubishi Eclipse is named after an eighteenth century English racehorse which won 26 races. The third generation of the Eclipse was different from the first and the second and used a new platform. The first generation of the Mitsubishi used the 4G63 head that had larger intake ports and offered better performance potential than the second generation head. The smaller ports provide greater velocity helped in cylinder filling. All the Eclipse models used the 4 cylinder gasoline engines and have iron block parts with aluminium cylinder heads. The Eclipse Turbo was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list from 1989 till 1992.
