The Ford Capri was developed as a baby Mustang for most parts of Eurepe. The Ford Capri was a two door car with a short trunk-lid and a long hood. Capri's for the North American market were built in Cologne, Germany, and were sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealers in North America. The Capri was introduced in parts of North America in April 1970. In many places the Capri was wrongly called as Mercury Capri.

In 1973 - The Capri was given a facelift and the exterior and interior was modified. Parts like the grille, tail lights, wiring harness and bumper was changed.
1975 - The Capri was restyled as a hatchback and was sold for the 1976 model year. This modified Capri was called Capri IIs in parts of North America in other parts of the world they were called as the Capri Mk II. The famous Capri is now searched for restoration because of their styling, performance & relative affordability.
