The CX-7 is a mid size crossover SUV model that was introduced by Mazda in 2006. The Mazda CX-7 is considered the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The CX 7 is built in parts of Hiroshima, Japan, starting early 2006 and used a new platform. At the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show in January, the CX-7 was shown publicly for the first time. The CX-7 went on sale in spring of 2006 as a 2007 model car. The CX-7 is also Mazda's first mid size SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994 in all parts.
The Mazda CX-7 used the front suspension of the Mazda MPV minivan and the rear suspension from the Mazda5. Mazda CX-7 and Mazdaspeed 6 used the same turbocharged engine. CX-7 used a 6 speed automatic transmission as standard and currently slots between the Tribute and the CX-9. The 2.5 litre MZR 4 cylinder engine that produces 161 horsepower and 161 lb-ft of torque and the same MZR 2.3Litre DISI Turbo engine was also used for the Mazda CX-7. The Mazda CX-7 used the 5 speed automatic transmission for the 2.5 and a 6 speed automatic for the 2.3 DISI Turbo engine.
