The Lexus IS 300 is a part of the IS series which is an entry level luxury, compact executive car. The Lexus IS 300 was introduced in 1998 and is a successful, well received model that is still in production. The IS 300 was introduced as an entry level sport model and the IS 300 ranged between the ES and GS in the Lexus line-up. The IS 300 was initially sold in Japan under the Toyota Altezza nameplate till the second generation of the IS 300 was introduces by Lexus in many parts. The parts of the Lexus IS 300 are assembled at the Tahara, Aichi plant in Japan and also in parts of Miyawaka, Fukuoka in Japan.
The Lexus IS 300 interior used unique parts and features that were not found in other Lexus models. The main features of the Lexus IS 300 include the chrome metal ball shifter, pop up navigation screen, and chronograph styled instrument panel. The exterior of the European IS 300 used the boot insignia and clear front indicators. The interior of the Lexus IS 300 used full leather seats instead of the leather/ecsaine seats that were used in the IS 200. J.D. Power and Associates named the first generation IS 300 sedan and IS 300 SportCross the best vehicles in the entry luxury class in its 2005 Initial Quality Survey.
