The Lexus IS 250 is a part of the IS series which is an entry level luxury, compact executive car. The Lexus IS 250 was introduced in 1998 and is a successful, well received model that is still in production. The IS 250 was introduced as an entry level sport model and the IS 250 ranged between the ES and GS in the Lexus line-up. The IS 250 was initially sold in Japan under the Toyota Altezza nameplate till the second generation of the IS 250 was introduces by Lexus in many parts. The parts of the Lexus IS 250 are assembled at the Tahara, Aichi plant in Japan and also in parts of Miyawaka, Fukuoka in Japan.


The initial first generation Lexus IS 250 used the codename as XE10 and was launched in Japan in October 1998. Lexus IS 200 (JCE10) was introduced in parts of Europe in 1999 and in North America the IS 250 was called the IS 300. The second generation Lexus IS 250 used the V6 engine for sedan models. The IS 250 was available in different body versions that include the high performance V8 sedan version, hardtop convertible versions. The name used for the series, ‘IS’ stands for Intelligent Sport according to Lexus.
