The Jeep was initially a model used for Military purpose during World War II. The model of the Jeep that was introduced for the Civilians was called the Jeep CJ (Civilian Jeep). The first CJ prototype was introduced in 1944 by Willys, and used the name as Jeep CJ 2. This first Civilian model was produced till 1986 and there are seven variants and three corporate parents during this period. The Jeep CJ is a successful model that is still in production. There are different variations like CJ-2, CJ-3, CJ-5, CJ-7 and CJ-8. The latest version of the Jeep CJ is called the Jeep Wrangler.
The CJ-5 was designed based on the ideas of the corporate owner, Kaiser, and the Korean War M38A1 Jeep. The Jeep CJ-5 was used to replace the CJ-3B, but that model continued in production. The Jeep CJ-5 was produced for almost 30 years and there were three variations. A total of 603,303 CJ-5s were produced between 1954 and 1983.
