The Ford Bronco II was a compact SUV sold between 1984 and 1990. The Ford Bronco II was a competitor for Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, Jeep Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner. The Bronco II was Ford's first compact SUV and was a smaller than the full-size Bronco. The Ford Bronco was similar to the Ford Ranger, mechanically and structurally. The first Bronco II was developed in parallel with the Ranger from 1984 to 1988. The initial Ford Bronco introduced in 1984 and 1985 used 115 hp (86 kW) carbureted Cologne 2.8 Litre V6 engine. The updated 1986 model used the 140 hp (104 kW) fuel injected 2.9 Litre Cologne V6. The Cylinder heads defect was the main cause for the failure of Bronco II. A small 86 hp (64 kW) 2.3 Diesel I4 engine was also offered from1987 however it offered poor performance.
