The Ford Expedition EL is the extended-wheelbase version of the Expedition that was introduced in 2007 by Ford Motor Company. The letters, 'EL' were used in the name to denote extended length. The extended version of the Ford Expedition was call Ford Expedition EL in parts of the United States and in parts of Canada and Mexico it was called the Expedition Max to avoid the confusion with Acura EL. Ford initially intended to call the EL as Everest however the name is currently used for the Ford SUVs in Asia.


Ford used the Expedition EL to replace the Excursion. The Ford Expedition EL is a strong competitor for Suburban/Yukon XL’s as they feature the same size and quality however the price of the EL is lowers. The Expedition EL is 15.8 in (40 cm) longer than the standard Expedition. The Ford Expedition EL received a 5-star rating from the NHTSA. The Ford Expedition EL comes in 4 trim lines: XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited and the King Ranch series. The long rear-quarter windows and the aft wheel well trim not cutting into the rear passenger doors were the noticeable features of the Expedition EL.
