The Subaru Forester is a tall, all-wheel drive Compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) manufactured by Subaru and is marketed as a compact crossover. The Subaru Forester was introduced in 1997 and was introduced in 1998 in parts of the United States. The Forester was designed as a all wheel drive model and used the same platform as the Impreza initially and during the later years used the hybrid platform of the Japanese Impreza wagon and the rear platform of the U.S. Impreza sedan. The name Subaru Forester means, 'a resident of the forest.
The Forester was initially introduced as a concept called, 'Sutoriga' in 1995 and the production of the model started in 1997 in parts of Japan. The Subaru Forester used the 2.5 litre DOHC EJ25D four-cylinder boxer engine from the Outback, and the power produced was165 hp (123 kW) at 5600 rpm and 162 lbft (220 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm. The Forester was used bu Subaru to replace the Subaru Impreza Gravel Express in parts of Japan that was also called as the Subaru Outback Sport in the USA.
