The Mercury Marquis was introduced as a full-size car and later a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Mercury part of the Ford Motor Company. The Mercury Marquis was introduced in 1967 and was produced till 1986. The mid-size version of the Mercury Marquis was introduced in 1983. The Mercury Marquis was available in different trim levels that include the full size Grand Marquis and the smaller Marquis was replaced by the Mercury Sable in 1986. The Mercury Marquis was available as a two door hardtop version.

The initial models of the Mercury Marquis used the Mercury exclusive 330 hp (246 kW) 410 in big-block FE engine as standard and the 315 hp (235 kW) 390 in big-block engine, the 345 hp (257 kW) 428 in big-block engine was used as optional. The Mercury Marquis was longer and a more luxurious model than the similar Ford LTD. The Mercury Marquis used the full-sized Panther platform and the Marquis name moved to the mid-size Fox platform. The mid-size models of the Mercury Marquis used the SOHC 2.3 Litre (140 cu in) four-cylinder as the base engine.
